# How Do You Apply for LegitScript Certification? Requirements and Documents, Step by Step

Reviewed October 12, 2026 · By Michael Borgia, MedScale Health

## Short answer

As of October 2026, you apply in LegitScript's client portal: create an account, choose Healthcare Certification, complete the eligibility form, pay $975 per website, then answer the application questions with a licensure spreadsheet, a telemedicine compliance sheet, every domain you own, your affiliates and partner pharmacies, any discipline and a HIPAA-compliant privacy policy. Analysts then review and ask questions. MedScale Health, a paid acquisition agency for telehealth brands and clinics, assembles that pack before the fee is paid.

## What this means for you

- Check eligibility first. Healthcare Certification is for businesses involved in the online sale, prescribing, facilitation or payment processing of prescription drugs. In-person-only clinics are generally not eligible.
- Build the document pack before you pay. The $975 application fee per website is paid before you can open the questionnaire, and LegitScript says it is nonrefundable regardless of outcome.
- The application is a set of questions plus templates: a licensure spreadsheet, a telemedicine compliance sheet if you prescribe remotely, and a compounding addendum if compounded drugs are involved.
- Partner pharmacies need to be LegitScript-certified or NABP-accredited. Check them before you file.

MedScale Health, a paid acquisition agency for telehealth brands and clinics, prepares LegitScript applications for the brands whose ads it runs, because Google and Meta won't run prescription drug advertising without the certificate. As of October 2026, this page walks through the application in the order LegitScript's own guides, checklist and published application questions set it out, all read on October 12, 2026. This page is marketing guidance, not legal or medical advice. Certification, payment and platform rules change, so check the sources listed at the end before acting on a specific rule.

## Step 1: Check that you're in scope

LegitScript's FAQ says you're likely in scope if you sell or advertise prescription medications online, offer telemedicine that may result in a prescription, take online or card-not-present payments for prescription drugs, or connect patients with contracted pharmacies or providers. Generally not eligible: in-person-only clinics and med spas that don't prescribe through telemedicine or take card-not-present payments for prescription drugs, supplement-only businesses, and research-use-only chemical sellers, peptides included.

If your website includes information about substance use disorder treatment, LegitScript generally recommends its Addiction Treatment Certification instead. If you manage many root domains, providers or locations, it points you to Enterprise Healthcare Certification, which leads to the same certificate.

## Step 2: Gather the documents

LegitScript's 101 guide, application checklist and application questions ask for the same pack. Have these ready before you pay:

- Business registration for every jurisdiction. For US businesses the checklist says this is usually your Secretary of State filing number, entered on the Business Registration tab of LegitScript's licensure template.
- The licensure spreadsheet: every active business, facility, pharmacy and professional license, with prescriber MD, NP and PA license numbers on the Telemedicine tab. Every applicant completes the Corporate Holdings tab.
- The telemedicine compliance spreadsheet, if you offer telemedicine: every state you serve, citing the laws you follow on the patient-practitioner relationship, patient identification, consent, online prescribing and medical records.
- A short description of the business model, how long it has operated, and its owners, principals, officers and directors with their titles.
- An exhaustive list of domains owned or operated by the business and its principals, the name of any mobile app, and test login details for any patient portal.
- Affiliates and partners: co-owned businesses, wholesalers, partner pharmacies, provider networks and marketing or promotional partners, with each partner pharmacy's certification status.
- DEA registration if you prescribe, dispense or administer controlled substances, and a description of how you prevent diversion. The questions also ask whether you dispense GLP-1 products compounded by a 503B outsourcing facility.
- The compounding addendum, if you compound or your platform facilitates the sale of compounded medications.
- Audits and inspections from the last five years, with your responses, and an account of any adverse legal, disciplinary or regulatory action, including card network fines.
- A HIPAA-compliant privacy policy on the site, and your current product and service descriptions, marketing claims and advertising materials.

The certification standards reach further back: applicants must disclose violations and litigation from the past ten years, and failing to give full and accurate information results in denial.

## Step 3: Check your partner pharmacies

The checklist says partner pharmacies, the pharmacies that fill prescriptions for your patients, must be certified through LegitScript or accredited by NABP. Look each one up with LegitScript's website status tool (five free lookups per week per IP address) and have evidence of the partnership ready. Partner pharmacies and providers that aren't certified must apply within sixty days after you are certified, and their review can affect yours. If your site links to a third-party telehealth provider group, that provider's URL has to be certified too.

## Step 4: Open the portal, pay and submit

- Create an account at certification.legitscript.com in Chrome on a desktop or laptop; mobile devices aren't supported, and the email confirmation link expires in two hours.
- Select Certification, then Start New Application, choose the matching category, and complete the Applicant Company Info section and the Eligibility Form, where you list the websites to certify.
- Agree to the recurring payment terms and pay the application fee, $975 per website on the standard track. Expedited processing is $2,500 more per application.
- Answer the questions and upload the templates. Progress saves automatically, a written answer that doesn't apply can be N/A, and LegitScript says you may upload a blank document for a required file that doesn't apply.
- List every website you own or operate, select Finish and confirm. The portal status should read Submitted.

Two timing rules from LegitScript's FAQ: the application fee can be refunded only if you withdraw before review starts, and if more than a year passes after you pay, you may be asked to complete the latest version of the application.

## Step 5: Screening, review and questions

LegitScript's Client Relations team screens each application within the first two business days of submission, then it joins the analyst queue, generally in the order received. With expedited processing, review begins within two business days after screening, which speeds up the start, not the review. LegitScript says it can't estimate any single application's timeline.

The analyst checks licensure, registration, website content, affiliates, the privacy policy, products and services, and promotion. LegitScript says minor noncompliance that must be fixed first is not uncommon, and its standards allow reasonable fixes during review without penalty. The most common holdups it lists are incomplete documentation, unverified partners, a site still under construction, a site that doesn't list every state served, unclear written procedures and undisclosed disciplinary history. Answer quickly: the terms let LegitScript deny certification if an applicant fails to respond in time.

## Step 6: Approval, then the platforms

Once approved, you pay the $2,150 annual certification fee per website, which finalizes certification for a year. A business whose site isn't live yet typically receives preliminary certification, which LegitScript says carries the same benefits, with the seal code issued once the site launches. Then the platform filings start on the certified domain: Google's healthcare certification, Meta's prescription drug authorization and Microsoft's preapproval form.

## What MedScale does

MedScale Health runs a readiness check against LegitScript's standards before a client pays the application fee, builds the licensure and telemedicine spreadsheets with the client's team, checks every partner pharmacy's status, reviews the site's claims and files in the client's own portal account. After approval it files the Google, Meta and Microsoft requests on the certified domain. Certification is LegitScript's decision, so no outcome or date is promised.

## FAQ

**What documents do I need to apply for LegitScript certification?**

Business registration, the licensure spreadsheet with every business and prescriber license, a telemedicine compliance sheet if you prescribe remotely, every domain you and your principals own, affiliates and partner pharmacies, DEA registration if controlled substances are involved, five years of audits and discipline, and a HIPAA-compliant privacy policy.

**Can I apply before my website is live?**

Yes. LegitScript asks for wireframes or screenshots and a go-live date, and an unfinished site typically leads to preliminary certification. LegitScript says preliminary certification carries the same benefits and is publicly verifiable, and the seal code is issued once the live site passes a final review.

**When do I pay the LegitScript annual fee?**

Only after approval. The $975 application fee per website is paid before you start the questions, and LegitScript's FAQ says it can be refunded only if you withdraw before review begins. The $2,150 annual fee per website is charged on approval and finalizes certification.

**Does my partner pharmacy need to be LegitScript certified?**

LegitScript's checklist says partner pharmacies must be certified through LegitScript or accredited by NABP. A partner that isn't must apply within sixty days after you are certified, and its review can affect yours, so check its status before you file.
