Ad Policy Tracker
What each platform allows, by vertical.
Restriction levels for Meta, Google Ads and TikTok across the healthcare categories we work in. Each cell separates what gets an ad rejected from what gets the account disabled, because those are different mistakes with very different costs.
Reviewed 2026-08-30. Re-verified quarterly against the platform policy pages listed at the bottom.
Where a cell says certification, it names which one. Most of the time that is LegitScript, the third-party certification Meta and Google require before an online pharmacy or telehealth provider can advertise prescription drugs.
- OpenOpen

- CertificationnamedCertification required
- Runs once a named certification is on file with the platform.
- RestrictedRestricted
- Clinic and consultation positioning runs; the product does not.
- ClosedClosed
- No compliant path to advertise the product on this platform.

GLP-1 / medical weight lossMetaCertificationLegitScriptGoogleCertificationLegitScriptTikTokRestricted
- Rejects the ad
- Before/after or idealized-body imagery; "tired of the weight?" personal-attribute hooks; naming semaglutide or tirzepatide without certification; under-18 targeting.
- Risks the account
- Landing page that reads like an online pharmacy; repeated resubmission of flagged creative; pixel events named after the drug.
- Requires
- LegitScript certification, then Meta's authorization, before an online pharmacy or telehealth provider can name a prescription drug. Meta's weight-loss policy sends prescription weight loss to that rule. Clinic-service ads that never name the drug run without it.
- Rejects the ad
- Drug-name keywords and ad text without certification (auto-rejected); unrealistic weight-loss claims.
- Risks the account
- Bidding on trademarked drug names; circumventing certification with misspellings.
- Requires
- Google's Healthcare & medicines certification, which in the US needs LegitScript (or NABP for a pharmacy) first, before drug terms can appear in ads, keywords or landing pages. Program- and clinic-intent keywords are open without it.
- Rejects the ad
- Prescription drugs prohibited; weight-management products restricted; body-shaming or transformation content.
- Risks the account
- Advertising compounded medication as a product.
- Requires
- Weight-loss surgical procedures in the US need TikTok sales-rep approval; supplements and meal replacements run 18+. TikTok publishes no US rule for prescription weight-loss drugs, so verify with your rep before relying on it.

Certifications named above
Which credential, and what it turns on.
The certification is not the platform approval. It is the credential you hand the platform, and each platform still runs its own authorization after it.
- LegitScript
- A third-party certification for pharmacies, telehealth providers, med spas and addiction-treatment programs. Meta requires it before an online pharmacy or telehealth provider can promote prescription drugs. Google accepts it for US online pharmacies and requires it for US telemedicine that prescribes and for US addiction treatment. TikTok accepts it for pharmacy ads.
- Google Healthcare & medicines certification
- Google's own application, filed after the LegitScript or NABP credential is in hand. It is what turns on prescription-drug terms in ads, keywords and landing pages for a US account.
- NABP Digital Pharmacy Accreditation
- The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy credential. Google and TikTok accept it in place of LegitScript for US online pharmacies; it does not cover telemedicine.
- Meta authorization
- After LegitScript is active, Meta still requires the advertiser to complete its onboarding and be authorized before prescription-drug ads deliver. Drug manufacturers can use Meta's internal review instead of LegitScript; pharmacies and telehealth providers cannot.

How to read this
Levels describe the reliable structure for direct-response ads in the United States. Platforms enforce unevenly, and a category that is open can still lose an account to one before/after image. Treat this as the map, not the territory, and check the linked policy before relying on a cell.
Where TikTok publishes no US rule for a category, the cell says verify. We would rather leave a gap than invent a requirement.
