Answer

How Do LegitScript Renewal and Monitoring Work?

Reviewed October 6, 20266 min readBy Michael Borgia, MedScale Health

Short answer

As of October 2026, LegitScript Healthcare Certification renews every year. You can start the renewal questionnaire 60 days ahead, and the $2,150 annual fee per website is charged automatically on the renewal date. Between renewals LegitScript monitors the business, and its terms require notice within 30 days of licence, DEA, business or regulatory changes and of any disciplinary action. MedScale Health, a paid acquisition agency for telehealth brands and clinics, keeps that calendar for the brands it certifies.

What this means for you

  • Renewal opens 60 days before your renewal date. Submit the renewal questionnaire and keep the card on file current, because LegitScript bills the annual fee automatically on the date.
  • A lapse is expensive. LegitScript says certifying again after a lapse needs a new application and new fees, and Meta's authorization depends on active certification.
  • Tell LegitScript within 30 days about changes to licensure, business or regulatory status, or DEA registration, and about any adverse legal, government or regulatory action.
  • Probation is LegitScript's call, not yours. It costs $3,995 a year per website on the current price list and comes with heavier monitoring.
  • New states, new services, new partners and major website changes are all on LegitScript's list of changes to report.

MedScale Health, a paid acquisition agency for telehealth brands and clinics, helps telehealth brands get LegitScript certified and then keeps the certificate alive, because every Meta and Google approval the brand holds rests on it. This page covers what happens after approval: renewal, the duty to report changes, monitoring, and probation. This page is marketing guidance, not legal or medical advice. Platform and certification rules change, so check the sources listed at the end before acting on a specific rule.

How renewal works

LegitScript's renewal guide says you can begin your renewal 60 days before the date. The steps: log in at certification.legitscript.com, open your renewing certification rather than starting a new application, find Current Renewal under Certifications and submit the questionnaire, then update the saved card. LegitScript says certification stays active as long as the annual fee is paid and the renewal questionnaire is submitted.

The fee side is set out in LegitScript's terms and pricing. LegitScript is authorized to charge the annual fee automatically at renewal using the payment method on file, and the business is responsible for keeping that payment method current. The standard annual fee is $2,150 per website. Annual fees are nonrefundable. You can cancel by written request at any time, but certification ends immediately when you do, and no prorated refunds are issued. To avoid the next annual fee, cancel before the renewal date.

Adding a website mid-year is cheaper than it looks. LegitScript's FAQ says you can email the new URL, complete a compliance review and pay the application fee, and the new site then shares your existing renewal date. If the new site is approved within six months of that renewal date, its initial annual fee is reduced by 50%. What a lapse costs

LegitScript is direct about it: if certification lapses and you want to be certified again, you need a new application and the application fees that go with it. At today's prices that is the $975 application fee again, on top of the $2,150 annual fee, plus a fresh review with no published timeline.

The platforms feel it first. Meta says you must keep an active LegitScript certification to keep your prescription drug authorization, and may revoke the authorization if it finds the certification is no longer active. Google allows US telemedicine providers to promote prescription drug services if they are accredited by LegitScript's Healthcare Merchant Certification Program. LegitScript also notes that anyone can check a business's status at legitscript.com/websites/ followed by the certified domain.

The 30-day notice duty

LegitScript's terms set two 30-day clocks. The business must notify LegitScript within 30 days of becoming aware of any change in its licensure, business or regulatory status in any jurisdiction, or in its DEA registration. It must also notify LegitScript within 30 days of becoming aware that it is the subject of any adverse or potentially adverse legal, ethical, government or regulatory action. The terms read that broadly: suspensions, probationary statuses, reprimands, warning letters, consent agreements, and any communication from a medical board, board of pharmacy or other regulator.

LegitScript's FAQ lists the significant changes it wants to hear about: ownership, business operations, partnerships, major website updates, new services, expansion into new jurisdictions, licensing updates, disciplinary actions, and regulatory actions involving the business, its principals or its employees.

That list reaches into marketing. A new offer page, a new treatment, a new state in the intake, or a new pharmacy partner is a change LegitScript asks to be told about. LegitScript's standards also require the website to state every state or country where services are available, so adding a state means updating the site as well as sending the notice.

Monitoring between renewals

LegitScript describes ongoing monitoring as part of the certification, to keep the business compliant with its standards and with internet platform ad policies. Its terms make the approval subject to ongoing monitoring and allow LegitScript to research and collect information about the business and its people. The terms also let LegitScript revoke certification if the business fails to respond to its requests in time, or if it no longer meets the standards, in LegitScript's sole discretion.

What triggers probation

LegitScript's pricing page describes probationary certification as being for businesses that meet all the standards but, based on the totality of circumstances, warrant heightened ongoing monitoring. Eligibility is first decided during the application review and may be considered again after later assessments, so probation can arrive after certification too. The terms name the usual reasons: a business model with partnerships that warrant more monitoring, being the subject of disciplinary action, presenting a reputational risk to LegitScript, or otherwise needing closer review.

The pricing page lists the same $975 application fee and an annual fee of $3,995 per website, with more in-depth and frequent monitoring. The terms add that probationary pricing is set case by case and that LegitScript may revoke probationary status at any time.

A simple calendar

  • On the day of approval: record the renewal date, save the public verification link, and set reminders 60 and 30 days before renewal.
  • Every month: list changes to prescribers, states, pharmacy partners, ownership, offers and pages, and send LegitScript notice of anything on its list within 30 days.
  • Every quarter: re-read the live site against LegitScript's truthful advertising standard and the platforms' health policies.
  • Sixty days out: submit the renewal questionnaire and confirm the card on file.

What MedScale does

MedScale Health keeps the monitoring calendar for the brands it certifies: renewal reminders, a monthly check of changes against LegitScript's list, notices drafted inside the 30-day window, and a pre-check of every new landing page before it goes live. When certification is at risk, Meta and Google approvals are at risk too, and MedScale treats that as an account emergency. Nothing here guarantees LegitScript's decision. Common questions

01When can I start my LegitScript renewal?
LegitScript says you can begin 60 days before your renewal date. Log in, open the renewing certification rather than a new application, submit the renewal questionnaire and update the saved card, since the annual fee is billed automatically on the date.
02What happens if my LegitScript certification lapses?
LegitScript says certifying again after a lapse needs a new application and the application fees. Meta may revoke prescription drug authorization once certification is no longer active, so a lapse can stop product ads until both are restored.
03Do I have to tell LegitScript when we add a new state or service?
Yes. LegitScript's FAQ lists expansion into new jurisdictions, new services and major website updates as significant changes to report. Its terms require notice within 30 days of changes to licensure, business or regulatory status, or DEA registration.
04What puts a business on LegitScript probationary certification?
LegitScript decides. Its terms name partnerships that warrant more monitoring, disciplinary action, reputational risk to LegitScript, or another reason for closer review. The pricing page lists $3,995 a year per website, and probation can be revoked at any time.
05Can I cancel LegitScript certification and get a refund?
You can cancel by written request at any time, but certification ends immediately and LegitScript issues no prorated refunds. Application and annual fees are nonrefundable, so cancel before the renewal date if you want to avoid the next annual fee.
